A história da alimentação escolar em Cabo Verde remonta ao ano de 1979. Entretanto, desde do ano 2001, a FICASE e os seus principais parceiros têm reforçado as suas ações a nível da saúde escolar, tendo como objetivos principais:
I. Reduzir as iniquidades sociais e de género;
II. Reduzir os comportamentos de riscos;
III. Reduzir a prevalência de doenças na comunidade em geral;
IV. Melhorar a aprendizagem e a qualidade do ensino.
O Programa Nacional de Alimentação e Saúde Escolar (PNASE), instituído pela Lei nº 89/VII/2015, surgiu como o alinhamento da política de alimentação e saúde escolar em Cabo Verde, e tem como objetivos:
I. Contribuir para o crescimento e desenvolvimento integral dos alunos;
II. Promover hábitos saudáveis e a saúde da comunidade em geral;
III. Melhorar a aprendizagem e o rendimento escolar.
